It’s Elizabeth. Sorry I’ve been out of touch for so long, but so much has changed. Dahliah is happy and healthy and growing fast. Physically, she’s doing well. She’s been walking since she was about 8 months old. She has favorite songs that she dances to, and she dances all the time. She is more than I ever hoped and she is my absolutely precious Dahliah.
As for me, things were really bad in February of 2011. Anytime I had money, KC would fight me until it went to alcohol or his drugs. When I told him I was going to college, that I would be successful enough to care for the baby, and nothing was going to stand in my way, the tide turned. We were constantly at each others throats, and he effectively kept me from moving out. He often kept me from leaving by taking the baby away from me and telling me that I could leave but I couldn’t take her with me. This terrified me. I knew I couldn’t leave her alone with him.
Finally, I had enough. While he was gone, I packed as much of Dahliah’s stuff as I could carry and I left. I’m now living in north Seattle, where I am in school, and I’ll be graduating in a couple of months. By April, I will be a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Washington State; hopefully working full time. I can honestly say I have never been this happy. I have never felt this confident about my future and the future I can provide for Dahliah. Nothing has ever been this bright for me and it’s just getting better.
I want to thank you for everything you did for me when I was trying so hard to keep it together. I didn’t have much of a support network, no matter how badly I tried to convince myself and the people around me otherwise. The truth is, I was wonderfully reassured by knowing I could call on you. It meant a lot to me knowing that you were there. You are a wonderful person and the work you do makes you priceless to society. If it weren’t for good people like you Jeannie, single hopeless moms like me a year ago, wouldn’t have the strength or confidence to graduate from college while raising a happy, healthy, not abused little girl while being drug and alcohol free.
You really are priceless.
Thank you so much.
