We Come to You!
For many of our moms, transportation is a significant barrier to getting the support and care they need to have a healthy pregnancy. Our first step is to help each mom deliver a healthy baby, to help her put her best foot forward and give her child the best start possible. We want our moms to know they are not alone, and we are there to help from the very beginning of their pregnancy. Our dedicated team of nurses and counselors provide professional in-home visits, where they create a plan of care that matches the needs of each individual mom and the specific barriers and risks she faces to having a healthy pregnancy.
A Relational Difference
Every mom needs support and encouragement, and we know that true and lasting change begins with a positive relationship. We come alongside our moms during the very beginning of their pregnancy, and in many cases continue to stay connected with them into their child’s first year of life.
Community Connections & Mentoring
Having a healthy baby is just the beginning.
Our moms often come from difficult backgrounds and circumstances. More often than not, they do not know what a healthy and positive family looks like, let alone how to cultivate one on their own. We want to break that cycle. Our moms want what is best for their children, and they want to be good mothers who raise strong and happy kids.
We offer a number of resources to encourage and help our moms succeed, and we provide opportunities for them to connect with each other and with others in their local community, including:
Life Skills Classes
- Areas include Parenting, Finances, Cooking & Nutrition, Housekeeping & Organization, Health & Fitness, Breastfeeding, etc..
Community Connections & Events
- Summer BBQ's, Christmas Parties, Community Baby Showers, Yard Sales, our Mom2Mom program, and more.
- Diapers, clothing, formula, food baskets, etc.
Our goal is to help our clients embrace positive parenting while developing healthy and positive relationships and connections. It is through these relationships that our clients are given the resources and encouragement they need to succeed and to provide a safe and healthy home for their families.
Transitional Housing & Homelessness Prevention
For years, Step By Step has recognized the need to provide housing for some of our most vulnerable clients. In 2009, the housing doors were opened for Step By Step through two federal housing grants. Our housing program has continued to expand over the years, through funding from grants as well as private donors.
We provide housing for mothers for up to two years. Each participant must be consistently setting and reaching their goals to become self-sustaining via education or employment.
The goal of our short term housing program is to help prevent homelessness and/or provide rapid re-housing.
Our housing program is limited. If you are in need of housing, please contact your case manager to find out if there are openings. Don't have a case manager? Call (253) 896-0903 for a referral.
